Mentoring and Professional Development

Mentoring allows me to build relationships of breadth and depth with creative individuals whose work and approach to work inspires me.

"Lee has a strong understanding of careers in the arts and the problems that come with that... She’s extremely good at building confidence and setting achievable targets."
Adam Strickson, Poet and Playwright.

I worked on with Adam in 1998 on the organisational development of Chol Theatre which he was then running. When he left the company to focus on his poetry and playwriting, he joined a Yorkshire Arts mentoring programme and we worked together for two years.

"Lee's listening skills, combined with her exceptional understanding of the creative process, enable her to ask exactly the right question at the right time."
Peter Gillies, Painter.

Peter came on the Creative Renewal programme designed in 2001 for CIDA. An intense residential, focused on enabling artists to review their creative practice and direction, was followed by twelve months mentoring. At the end of the twelve months' funded programme, Peter wanted to continue the mentoring, and the fee was manifest in a glorious painting...

"She has good connections and keeps her knowledge fresh. She has a national perspective and understands the bigger picture."
Susan Jones, Director of Programmes, the Artists’ Information Company.
